Today, June 5th., Air Canada, along with joint venture partners Lufthansa Group and United Airlines, will introduce Economy Basic fares on select transatlantic routes. Economy Basic fares will be available for purchase via aircanada.com, in your GDS and on the mobile app.
Overview
Economy Basic has been designed to provide value to customers who won’t need to adjust their travel dates and are willing to travel light. Unlike typical ultra-low-cost carrier fares, customers will be entitled to complimentary carry-on baggage, the accumulation of Aeroplan Miles and Altitude Qualifying Miles (at a reduced rate) on transatlantic routes, as well as access to seat-back in-flight entertainment systems (when available). However, as the lowest fare option, certain restrictions apply: some travel options and services will be available for a fee while others will not be available. See below for more detail:

- Carry-on baggage (1 hand luggage and 1 personal item)
- Complimentary onboard meal and beverages
- Accumulation of Aeroplan Miles and Altitude Qualifying Miles
Fare conditions:
- Refunds: non-refundable
- Changes: not available
Services available for an added fee:
- Seat reservation
- 1 piece of baggage up to 23 kg
- Excess baggage
- Seat with extra legroom
As a reminder, only the fare basis code can determine the fare product and its determine attributes. The last three characters of the fare basis code for the fare type on your GDS is as follows:

Background
The expansion of Economy Basic fares to transatlantic markets follows the implementation of Branded Fares, whereby Air Canada:
- Introduced Economy Basic to its suite of economy fares available on select North American markets;
- Introduced comfort, positioned between Flex and Latitude, to its suite of economy fares available on North American markets;
- Introduced the functionality to share economy cabin booking classes (S/T/L/A/K/G/W/V/Q/H/U/M) between Standard and Flex for North America markets;
- Began expanding the use of both Standard and Flex within the same booking classes across North America;
- Implemented technical changes to seat map displays and the seat selection process to support this initiative;
- Recognized Fare Brands by the last two digits of the fare basis code: Standard (-TG) and Flex (-FL).
